Dr. William Tayeebwa is a Senior Lecturer in the Makerere University Department of Journalism and Communication. He served as Head of the Department from March 2014 to August 2020. He holds a Ph.D. in Communication from Concordia University, Montreal in Canada (2012); an MPhil in Media Studies from University of Oslo, Norway (2003); and a Bachelor of Mass Communication, Makerere University, Uganda (2000). His areas of university teaching since 2000 have been mainly in print journalism and development communication as a full-time faculty at Makerere University (Uganda); His areas of research, consultancy and publishing include the nexus between journalism with peace and conflict. He has published in mainly the area of media and peacebuilding. He is a previous postdoctoral fellow at the University of Cambridge in the UK (2014) and at the Interdisciplinary Centre for the Study of Global Change (ICGC) at the University of Minnesota, USA (2019). He has co-edited two major global projects, namely: the Special Issue of Media and Communication in 2020, Volume 8, Issue 1 on “Rethinking Safety of Journalists”; and a book titled Journalism in Conflict and Post-Conflict Conditions: Worldwide Perspectives (Nordicom, 2016). He has also collaborated with Prof. Dr. Susanne Fengler on two global publications that she co-authored namely: “The Global Handbook of Media Accountability”, London: Routledge (2021); as well as “Reporting on Migrants and Refugees. Handbook for Journalism Educators”, Paris: UNESCO (2021).
